Week Notes No. 46: Learning Currents

By Justin G. on

This is half grim stuff, drone wars and AGI, and half wtf stuff, wooly mice and SharePlay.

  1. Articles & Newsletters
    • This NYT article about drone warfare in Ukraine is dystopic.
    • Something quite nerdy: a new paper on differentiable logic cellular automata (via hn). I don’t know why, but I can’t give up my fascination with these tiny computer programs; all I want to do is make art with them. It’s a purely visual appeal for me–it’s all about the aesthetics.
  2. Podcasts
    • Ezra on AGI is coming. They sound convinced, and I am convinced that something is coming. I just don’t know if it is really going to blow our socks off.
  3. Quotes
    • “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” Eric Hoffer, via HN.

  5. Facts & Ideas
    • There are wooly mice now. Like mice with genes from wooly mammoth, so they are very fluffy. And part of me recoils, and says in a whisper, “abomination.” But they’re also pretty cute. So, you could say that I’m divided over this new development.
  6. Skills

Cat zen.
